Re: IML: Bumper Jack Stowage in Trunk - 59 Imperial

I'm not sure that my car ever had that spring since I've owned it. The restoration was complete off-the-frame, so if that spring was in the body somewhere then it's been lost.

Thanks for your response to my question. I'll try to find a replacement spring or I imagine I can fabricate something to hold the jack in place. It's unlikely that my bumper jack will ever be used again now that everything (e.g. perfectly re-chromed bumbers) has been restored.

Dig around in the bottoms of the rear quarters on both sides. You may find the spring laying down there.

There is a spring that attaches in a loop in the floor & the other end
attaches at the part of the jack that raises. I believe these are all the
same at least back to 59 & through 66.

The tensions spring is a separate piece.

The restoration of my '59 Imperial is nearing completion and I'm trying
to figure out how the bumper jack stores in the trunk. The two brackets
are in place, but the owner's manual states - " To remove, move the
control trigger down and release tension on holding spring by operating
the jack." (It doesn't explain in detail how to re-stow it.) The
picture in the manual is not real clear since the spare tire partly
obstructs the view of the stored jack, but it looks like there might be
something coming up from the trunk floor that attaches to the jack.

My question: Is the tension holding spring part of the bumper jack or
is it a separate piece that also attaches to the trunk (floor)?
Can anybody with a '59 tell me how to store the bumper jack (and
perhaps send me a photo)?
