Re: IML: Swap Meet Report

Ken;
I would be willing to bet that the vendor with the bezels ended up taking
them home again at that price. There was one guy in these parts that had a
pair of 57' Desoto tail lamp assemblies in a similarly bad condition and
only wanted $80 for his, needless to say he took them home again for about
three years in a row. Badly pitted items like that are little more then
garage trophies, at what the rechroming would cost you would have to be
pretty desperate to use them.
Aside from this group Imperials have little appeal to the average swap
meet goer. As such I have generally found that the items and vehicles that
generally get dragged to swap meets are for the more popular makes unless
someone locally is just cleaning out their basement. This is not to say that
you can't find off brand parts through going to swap meets it's just that
many folks leave them at home, hanging a sign around your neck asking for
things sometimes brings a positive response in this direction.

Subject: IML: Swap Meet Report

I attended the Portland Car Collector Show and Swap Meet yesterday.
Hundreds of cars on display or for sale and not an Imperial in the bunch!

I worked through the swap meet which was pretty big. Only two Imperial
parts there. A stack of hubcaps for a 62 or 63 (I still don't know the
difference!) and two 61 taillight assemblies.

I checked out the 61 lights. The pot metal was severely bubbled and
would not be usable. One of the rear lenses was broken and also not
usable. About all you were going to get from these pieces is one used
but serviceable rear lens. I left them for somebody else - somebody
willing to give the seller $150.

Sheesh.
