Serpentine belt systems were designed to reduce the amount of parts & time required during assembly at the factory; saving manufactures money $$$. Instead of separate brackets for the a/c. p/s, alt & if equipped a smog pump. Most cars & trucks get by with one or maybe two main brackets and one belt although there are a few out there that still have two belts. Another bonus to these systems is the brackets are often made from cast aluminum making them stronger than stamped steel which flex under stress. Since these brackets are stronger and do not adjust they reduce vibration which make the accessories and belt(s) last longer as well as reducing the amount of vibration felt by the passengers.

I can change the serpentine belt on my 94 Dakota in less than 5 min with one 15mm wrench as opposed an hour and several wrenches on my 81 Imp. For those of you have doubts about owning or driving a car with just one belt driving everything as I still do after many years do what I do, keep a spare, it doesn't take up much space and won't leave you stranded.

For $3k you can chuckle or you can think about how cool it would be to have for the 5% of the time that the hood is up.... Guess that they expect you to use electric fans as there's no place for a fan clutch, but who's counting?

Someone is really working at this - they have them for Chev & Ford engines too.
