I have read all this thread and the preceding threads with a growing amount
of distaste and tried very hard to avoid joining the fray, but feel I must make
a comment, especially as I will make at least one positive
comment!
1. I don't know about all in the Imperial Club on line, but I
play with old cars for fun, because I enjoy them, to relieve the stress of ever
increasing business demands, I don't want my hobby full of the aggravations
of every day life. I don't want to read e mails bad mouthing people unless
something illegal or fraudulent has taken place.
2. I wonder if people realise how lucky they are having specialists
who can supply parts the same or similar to the original parts, especially as
many Imperials had such small production runs, my own Imperial has no
specialists that I am aware of and very few people who can be confident in
giving any advice, so if you have a specialist count your blessings.
3. I have bought things from Steele's and can confirm once you have
accepted the price! you cant criticise the product.
4. An Open comment to Mr Gilling - I don't know how long you have played
with old cars, but something you need to learn is patience, things don't happen
by return, they take time. Unfortunately there are people in the States who are
as pig headed as you, and your actions and comments will mean that those of us
trying to buy and import things into the UK from the States will find it
harder and more even people will refuse to send things overseas -
Thank you.
5. I have wondered for a long time how libel laws are applied in respect of
things posted on web sites, no doubt (having looked at Mr Gilling's
professional website) Mr Gilling will know the answer.
6. e mail is not an infallible means of transmission, they fail, sometimes
aren't received even though your computer shows they have been sent (I know from
bitter experience) so just because you have sent an e mail don't assume the
recipient has received it, and that is as much about the original as well as the
reply.
having got that off my chest I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year, doing what this Club is all about - Enjoying our cars.
Regards
Nigel
