RE: IML: Imperial a go

Well, this would be a first. The article from Inside Line (perhaps the most reputable online automotive site) says it would be based on the next-generation Mercedes-Benz R-Class. Keep in mind that the current R-Class shares a platform with the M-Class and new GL-Class SUVs. It's a unit-body but still a light truck platform. I imagine this would mean the next-generation R-Class "Grand Sports Tourer" would move to a more carlike platform. Wonder where the next-gen Pacifica fits into this strategy too.

The current R-Class starts in the high $40K range, and it's not nearly as luxurious as the Imperial concept. Hmmm... Maybe I'll try to pry some info out of some friends deep inside DCAG.

And let's hope they don't "fix" the styling in the direction of the misshapen bugeyed minivan R-Class!
