IML: 58 Dash removal

Hi, Guys and Gals,

I am considering refurbishing the dash on my '58 Crown and even bought a nice dash core from a fellow member. He shipped me the entire dash to help protect the structure, but when it arrived, I was absolutely shocked to see how the dash is constructed. There is an upper pad whose frame detaches from the dash, but the "fingers" of the dash that hold the torqueflite and heater/ac controls appear to be molded to the instrument panel assembly. Now that I see it, I am thinking that the entire instrument panel assembly and along with the switches below it has to be removed and changed out in order to replace the dash. Can this be true? If so, one has to disassemble the entire dash to change the pad. The dash I bought is from a '57, not a '58, but everyone has told me these are interchangable except for adding the mirror to the edge of the dash for the'58. Has anyone out there ever done this job on a '57 or '58 who can guide me? I want a very nice dash, but I am reluctant to tear up the entire inside of a nice car just to get it.

Thanks so much!

Rex Crews '58 and '60 Crowns
