I'd like to be able to report that I found a miraculous cure for the what ailed my '68 Crown convertible. The fact of the matter is that all it took was a little more fresh gas, 2 ounces of Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant, and the courage to drive the car. After I replaced the coil and condenser, and after I tore down the carb for the upteenth time, it seemed to me that matter had to be stale gas. I poured two ounces of Lucas into the tank along with an extra gallon or two more of fresh gas. Then I reved the engine repeatedly and watched my vacuum gauge. The vacuum was unsteady. Then I drove the car up and down my driveway, braking hard at the top and bottom to mixup my gas tank. The vacuum reading improved, and I adjusted the mixture until I had maxiumum vacuum. The engine still ran badly, but during its surges, it felt as though it "wanted" to run against a load. I drove the car up and down the driveway many more times. When the rough running eased a little, I took the car onto the street. Driving around the block the first time wasn't easy. The engine would gag on acceleration, and then surge suddenly with enormous gusto. The second time around the block, the engine smoothed out a bit. The third time the engine was even smoother. On the four turn, I broke out of my loop and drove all over the neighborhood in quiet comfort with the engine providing beautiful, smooth power through all driving ranges. It was magnifcent. I can't wait now to install the rest of the interior, and enjoy this car the way Chrysler Corporation intended: top down, A/C on, and at speed!
