 When you say nothing happens is this to say no fan, no dampers moving. or do you mean that just the compressor dose not come on.  The AC system is simi-automatic. not like the auto temp II of old.  if the Compressor is not on and the air is blowing out the vents, them your system is just low on freon. there is a pressure switch the will keep the compressor form starting. you are looking at about 300.oo to change it over to 134 if the hoses and stuff are good. more if new hoses and so on are need. or you can get a kit at Nappa to change it to 134 on your own and see what you have. I have a bud how did this 3 years ago with his 74 IMP and he is still nice and cool.  I had one of my 75 converted to 134 and one is still R12.
