Re: IML: Spark Plugs

I have personally always hated NGK plugs. This stems from my dirt bike as a kid that would repeatedly foul NGKs in about 1/4 the time of Champions. I know they have a good rep, but that was my personal experience. When you foul a plug on a 1 cylinder dirt bike 50 miles from home, believe me, you remember it because the bike won't start. If you're lucky (after the 1st time) you carry a spare and some emory paper and hopefully you can clean them enough to get home. I never heard a good explanation for this until recently when I read somewherethat NGKs are good plugs, but very susceptible to fuel fouling, so they are bad for 2 strokes like lawnmowers and possibly your particular car. I have always used Champions and changed them every year whether it needs it or not and never noticed any problems, but I have to admit I am going to try a set of Autolite 85s in my 440 next change.

I like the NGK XR-4 in my 1960 Imperial very much, very easy starting and
good performance!
