Use of exhaust manif gaskets ( was Re: IML:Exhaust Manifold What Year?)

The FSM does not call for a gasket. If you are confident that the machined surface will mate to the block without leaking, leave it out. It does not hurt to use one, and nearly every big block I see has it.
