Well Jim,
I don't like the idea to remove the pushbutton
array too much, I must admit..
I hope the the wire is loose or that the contacts
of the switch are only dirty.
A can with contact cleaner will do the trick
then.
As soon as the weather permits I will remove the
speedometer and have a look at the switch.
THanks,
Robert

Paul is right as usual. I had the speedometer
out of my '60 yesterday to try and figure out why the EL labels for the light
& rear air switches were dark (the white wires had come loose from the
labels) and the back-up light switch sits on top of the push button/cable
mechanism. The plug sits on top of the switch. The only ugly part
is that the switch is attached to the PB/C Mechanism by metal tangs which
look tough to get to without removing the mechanism. Hopefull cleaning
the area will solve the problem. A short term by-pass switch of some
sort should be pretty easy though.
Good Luck -

If you take out
the speedometer, you can see the switch in action when you operate the
reverse button. It may have become loose, or it might need to be cleaned
or replaced. It is a toggle that moves with the R button. I believe that
it can be easily by-passed with a manual toggle as suggested earlier. The
wires are visible once the speedometer is out, and may be unplugged (or
cut if necessary) to temporarily make the lights functional for the
inspection.
Its been a long time since I was inside there on my cars, I
don't recall anything difficult about accessing the switch. Good luck on
this!

1960 Imp at fault
Hi,
I need some advice with regard to my
backup lights, they suddenly quit working and since I have to go to the
yearly inspection at my local DMV next month, I will try to solve the
problem asap.
I always had trouble since I own the car to make the
backup lights lite up. I have to hit the R button of the gear selector
hard (and sometimes a couple of times, alternating between N and R) to
make it work.
So I guess the backup light switch is at fault and it
need to be replaced.
Am I right here, and if so ; How do you
replace this switch? I guess it is somehow connected to the gear selector
assembly but I don't know how.
If this switch is at fault, is it
still possible to get a replacement? Or is it repairable?
Thanks
in advance,
Robert 1960 Crown Southampton
