THanks for your very informative investigation!
However, I am still convinced that I have a complete other situaton on my 
hand here!
You see, if I push the rear back door switches in by hand, my dome light 
shines on at half power or so!!?

So, I still go for Paul's theory that a 'hot" wire from the window motor or 
power lock might be causing this problem.

Unfortunately I was quite busy with my wifes Mercedes today (valve 
adjustment, brake hose replacement etc.), but hopefully I will be able 
tomorrow to have a look at my 60 Imperial :)

With regard to the schematic diagrams in our FSM's , they are not always 
100% accurate to say it nicely!
Some wires that are running to the wiper switch are also messed up in the 
diagram, and there might be some errors more!

With regard to the map light switch, these are prone to fall apart over the 
years, I had to replace mine too on my 60!
