To Hugh, a second 1959

Beyond all other considerations, you are not in good shape to acquire this
second 1959.  I do not know what you do, or how much you make.  Your
existing parking situation is tolerated at best.  Another leviathan in the
process of being stripped will tax whatever goodwill you may have
established.

Thoughts -

1.  You already have a loan on the 1959 you have.
2. The second 1959 is not a parts car, even if no one else wants to buy it.
When you get it, you wont want to treat it as one.  Your expenses will
double, at least.
3.  The Nissan is not going to depreciate any further.  Dimitrios is wrong
about the collectibility of these cars.  there is a strong market for them.
4. Borrowing money to pursue a hobby is not economically sound.
5. A 1959 will never be a reliable car.  Too many old pieces are waiting to
malfunction.  Just when you think everything is wonderful, your drive shaft
will fail.  Count on it.


As a "banker," as someone who counsels people on loans all day, I would not
lend you a dime for this project.  There is an intersection between wants
and needs.  In your case both your wants and needs are ill defined.  Pursue
your current 1959 course to the best of your ability.  get some good sound
every day transportation that will not eat you alive economically, and may
even be useful to the 1959, like a pick up truck.  The moment you mentioned
you had borrowed money for the existing 59, your 'credit' was "cancelled."

You have not mentioned this element in your own words, but I suspect it is
lurking in your subconscious, nonetheless.  You cannot save them all.  In
your case, neither your bank balance nor your neighbours will allow you.
