fuel pump problem

You might try replacing the fuel filter, if you have not already. I had a car that did something like you describe(went more like 10 miles) replaced the pump, the filter next to the pump and a bunch of hose(thinking it might be sucking air thru the line) finally in desperation we decided to pull the tank, and found a fuel filter on top of the tank where it couldn not be seen from the bottom of the car.  We replaced the filter, problem solved.
