Well, that's excellent. I am very pleased for you. You know me. Hard core
MOPAR! If it wasn't put on your Imperial by Chrysler, you better have a
damn good reason for it being there. An iconoclastic position, perhaps, but
I'm as entitled to my opinion as the next person.
I think that this is what this list is all about. All of us getting
together, pooling our knowledge and experiences, our resources and contacts.
I enjoy the Exner and Engel discussions as much as the next person, but I'm
usually even more interested when us owners make our own success.
There are a lot of people like me on this list who don't really rate their
mechanical abilities that highly. I dare say that we are the majority. But
its going to be us enthusiasts, who do it for the love and not the money,
who will keep these old cars going into the future.
I enjoy going to car shows and seeing all the Chargers, or Mustangs, or
whatever in a row. Their owners get to swap ideas and tips, and check out
each other's latest projects. But I am more drawn to the orphan cars.
There is a guy in the local AMC club who has a thing for early 50's Nash.
What a guy. Just as dedicated as the others but realizes he ain't the one
who is going to be winning any prizes any time soon. That isn't why he does
it.
It took a car as freakish and alone as my 58 Imperial to suck me into this
hobby. The little I know about cars I have learned from working on it. The
best thing is now I can tell the blow hards and the wallet maestros, the
folks who never get their own hands dirty and would not dream of going to a
scrap yard after scrap yard to find the right part.
It takes all sorts to make this list. We have this odd thing in common, an
affection for these big old boats that many people find ridiculous. It's so
nice, as someone said just the other day when he re-subscribed to the list,
to have a place where the Imperial is king.
