I've used a couple of different things. One of my favorites is to use an appropriately sized piece (or pieces) of second hand luggage. I've used: -- a large, round, red patent leather hat box that belonged to my grandmother. It was about the size and shape of the spare tire. -- a fake Louis Vuitton large overnight case (second hand) was perfect color for a Light Ginger Moondust Lincoln Town Car. -- a 20" square ivory leather ladies travel suitcase. It was about 10" deep and the sides were lined with shoe pockets that I filled with quarts of oil, brake fluid, trans fluid, gas filters, fuel pumps, etc. Spare belts and a PS hose were coiled into a pocket in the lid. -- A large black Samsonite suitcase is good for big loads when you carry lots of spare parts on long trips I've also used large cardboard archive boxes - about 12"x12"x24". The are cheap, available from Office Depot and have folding tops that can be secured shut and fit perfectly in the area between the wheel well and the rear bumper.
