There are many plate options in Texas. My 58 has had three plates on it since I've been fooling with it. It currently has black 1958 plates, with white lettering. As I understand it, back then, a car had to get a new plate every year in Texas. In even years, the plate was black with white letters, vice versa for odd numbered years. I imagine that made it easier for the police to check who had not paid road tax. The practice continued to the late 60's. I bought mine off of e-bay from a guy in San Antonio, so I was able to pick them up from him without any mailing involved. I took them to the Dept. of Transportation, who inspected and photocopied them. I filled out a form or two, paid $15.00, then waited a week or so before I was notified my new tags were at the down town county tax assessor collectors office. Pretty simple. Hugh
