e-mail overload and Rules reminder

Hi folks,
Seems like a few of you feel Rose discussions are
fine I was too harsh. If you will re-read my note, I
did NOT say they were not! I also did not reprimand
the diesel message or the Dodge truck request, I
simply used the messages of the day to illustrate how
easy it is to go astray from the main purpose of the
IML which is keeping our Imperials (CARS) on the road!
As with all these moderator actions, I and Roger call
things as we see em! I thought the Rose discussion
had wound on long enough but I did not say it had to
stop!
I just used it to illustrate the need for folks to
think about their posts and remember the rules which I
sent along.

For illustration purposes, I always go back to my 56
Nash Ambassador I own!
well..
Nash became part of Rambler, Rambler became AMC, AMC
became Eagle, Eagle became a division of Chrysler,
Chrysler became Daimler Chrysler and at one time
created Imperials.
So... I should flood the list with Nash Rambler
questions because my nash is an Imperial.. A case
could be made but I don't believe that is what most of
us are here for (unless there are more Nash owners out
there then I know of!).
In some way most any topic we come up with can be
twisted and contorted to in some way relate to
Imperials.
Roger and I and the admin list have to try and strike
a balance between what is "fair game" and what is out
in left field!
I thought the rose messages were getting on the fringe
but I did NOT say they had to stop! I also thought the
Diesel truck radiator and the Dodge truck messages
were on the fringe but they were requests for help so
I did not write the senders about em.
I know we are a community and we come to our friends
for help so I let them go without writing the senders
and had no problem with them.
When I felt the IMperial car related messages were
less common then the "fringe" messages, I sent a rules
reminder citing some example of things I felt were on
the fringe from that day.
Being an Impcop is NOT black and white and we do the
best we can.
(Whiteshoes never did give me the manual DANG IT!!)
;-)
I understand the position "Just detete the ones you
don't want to read" position but since folks often do
not change the subject of their messages, they often
have nothing to do with the title so I don't know if
they are of interest to me till I have read em and
spent the time.
According to our best guess, there are 662 email
recipients currently on the IML.
That can lead to a LOT of deleting!
Speaking personally, I have 4 daughters, 4 seperate
and distinct Jobs, an active social life and a BUNCH
of Imperials THAT NEED ME!!!
;-)

So spending 3 hours a day reading about flowers and
diesels and other folks personal messages is sometimes
taking away from other things I would like to do!
I KNOW we have lost many good members who simply could
not keep up with the huge volume of emails!
So I wrote the following message asking folks to
consider their posts in an effort to keep everyone as
happy as possible.
If you feel asking folks to follow the rules was way
out of line for me, I apoligize to you.
If you feel the rules need to be changed to allow more
varied topics I encourage you to write me or one of
the admin folks and join our merry band of IML Admin
folks to revise the rules so whatever topic you feel
strongly about is OK to be discussed. We are
BASICALLY a democracy (The Admin list) so if you feel
other things need to be considered, come make your
case on the admin list.
Or you could also take the stray topics to the IML
salon where most anything is OK to talk about.
So this does not drag through the IML any further, I
would ask you to write me or Roger or Leslie or the
other admin folks directly unless you feel strongly
some other aspect of this needs to be discussed on the
IML.
All the best and lets get back to the cars!
