Well,

It's possible, but, that is the first thing that I tried on my 83.  I
bought
a brand new 'Fuel Flow Stabilizer' from the dealer but it didn't help at
all.

I DO know that if you disconnect that Stabilizer while the engine is 
running, the engine will quit.
