Ernie,
You're right about the PT Cruiser. When they first came out I thought "wow
what a cool looking vehicle!" Now I don't even look at them. I think that if
more modern cars had some character there wouldn't be so many PT Cruisers on
the road. There would be more choices.
I would really like to see the Imperial come back with a V-8, rear wheel
drive, all the goodies, and of course lot of character. It could be done.
Lincoln and Cadillac needs some competition.

Why would we want Detroit to mimic our very special vehicles. Do we not
own them because they are not a dime a dozen and readily available at
your neighborhood Chrysler,__________, _________, or________ dealer.
The PT cruiser is a perfect case in point, when first released they were
quite a unique car, now I nearly gag when I see one. Not that they
aren't cute and all, but they have just become another mass produced
consumer commodity.
Let them continue to produce the look alike lumps which pervade the
marketplace and clutter our highways so people will continue to look at
our unique pieces of automotive history and say, "wow is that ever
cool". Just my 2c.

older cars we care so much about. "Soul" is a real good way of trying to

that feeling into words. Guess thats why so many guys (and many women
too!)
have a special love for their vehicles. I tried to explain it to someone
once
and the best I could do was this......it's like when you are looking for
a
new house to buy. If you go into a brand new house, one that was just
recently finished, or not yet finished, you get, or at least "I get", a
feeling of emptyness. No one has lived in this house yet. No one has
spent a
part of their life in it. No one has raised their kids, laughed and
screamed
at them also, ran after the dog which had just stole the dinner off the
table, or cleaned up the mess from countless breakfasts, dinners,
midnight
snacks and football games. No one had stayed up waiting till their just-
turned-driving-age children came home for the night, or shared the good
as
well as the bad times we all have to go through with kids, pets,
relatives
and family in general.
Go into a 60 year old house that has had people living in it most of its
life
and I get a VERY DIFFERENT feeling!...not spooky or a 'poltergeist'
feeling,
just as though these walls and rooms have a history that, for lack of a
better way to say it, have taken on abit of the spirit of those that
lived
there. Its not a bad or a good feelin. Its just that compared to a brand
new
house there is not question that THIS ONE is a lot 'fuller' than the
brand
new house.
Thats the same way I feel about old cars, and I'm not trying to sound
like
Stephen King and his story about the car CHRISTENE. Everyone in the IML
has a
special 'feel' for cars or you would not be a member, and you certainly
would
not have spent the time it has taken you to read this so far. Sometimes
I
wonder, as weird as it sounds, if a little bit of ourselves doesn't 'rub
off'
onto the vehicles we care so much about. Not in a 'good' or 'bad' way,
just
kinds like leaving someone with a 'memory'.
Sorry, getting kind of deep here!.....but those of you who know what i
mean
will have no trouble referring to your cars as family members no matter
how
weird others look at you!!!! ( sort of like the way the wife thinks I am
weird about my cars!)
Anyway, I doubt if anone can really break down the feeling we have for
our
cars but can you imagine the vehicles that Detroit could put out if that
feeling were able to be reproduced and put into cars coming right off
the
line????????? Will Detroit ever 'wake up'? probably not unless they
could
make money out of it, unfortunately.
