That's what my muffler guy said (he builds bracket racers). He said put new
pipes on, run it up good and hot and put the H where the discolouration
starts. I also noted that a X is even better.

Has to do with the equalization of pressure...don't know technical answer
but it sure works. Some guys say to put some paint on the pipes first, run
the car, and then put the equalizer were it was hottest.
