Well, what do you know? There is a neutral safety switch on the '58 Imperial (oops, we still may not have an answer here, this was a '57, does it work the same way?)transmission afterall. Somehow I guessed that there would be, no matter what was done from the inside to start the car. By the way, that "X" brand car I mentioned in an earlier post got me again today. I brought it in to have the automatic looked at and it needed a new one. $1,800 later I have a new 4 speed automatic, but still no neutral safety switch. It turns out, on that car the safety is located in the steering column, and that is not something that the transmission shop is willing to get into. Funny how this list seems to be able to predict the future! Wasn't it Eric who recently discovered that he had a broken timing chain immediately after we all ran a thread on the subject? Thank goodness that our Imperial's (at least the ones that have powerflite and torqueflite automatics) have a switch that is easy to access mounted on the left side of the transmission case.
