Abiding by the rules & common sense

Thanks for reminding some of the people.  I have the same complaint with people who don't put a subject line in as well and have sent messages privately to them suggesting they remember to do this.  I'm not on digest mode but it would seem to me that if you want someone to read your message, you'd put a (relevant) subject line in.  It's a waste of time to open a message with no subject line only to find something that's been beaten to death a week ago.

The list moderator posted a reminder of the rules a day or so ago. I'd like
to give you some reasons why you should pay attention to the SUBJECT line in
the address box above the text.

1. It will make a search of the archives for a relevant subject infinitely
easier. A thread that started out about one thing and becomes another will
be hard to track down. I suggest you put a year in there to help out as
well. Subjects like, "I have a question," will not yield much when someone
is looking for an answer to a specific question. (As an example, a thread
about the difference between a hardtop and a sedan has become a thread about
meaning of the word Southampton as it applies to Imperials. As such, I
changed the subject line to reflect the new question. Again, this will make
an archive search more fruitful.)

2. Personally, I only look at a fraction of all the IML posts. If the
subject says, for example, 68 brakes, or, Reliable car transporter needed, I
just delete it as I have no real interest or any contribution to make to the
message. Assuming I am not the only one who does this, if you want to reach
list members with an interest in your question, you'd better let them know
in the subject line.

Hugh
