Re:Lucas stop leak (was: transmission leak

Sorry for the slightly off-topic advert but Europe and especially UK based IML readers may be interested in the Rumble at the Rock event at Rockingham Motor Speedway:

Rumble at The Rock, Sunday 5th September 2004

The Gordon-Keeble Owners’ Club, in conjunction with Rockingham Motor Speedway, are arranging a very special display and cavalcade of particular luxury/performance vehicles, to augment the penultimate round of the exciting Texaco-Havoline 100 ‘Days of Thunder’ V8 Muscle-car Championship being held at the UK’s only oval motor racing circuit, near Corby in Northants.

Eligibility for inclusion is solely limited to vehicles manufactured in Europe powered by US-made 8-cylinder engines of any age – from the magnificent Railtons of the pre-war years, via Allard, Bristol, De Tomaso, Facel, Gordon-Keeble, Iso, Jensen, Marcos, Monteverdi, Sunbeam Tiger and Trident to the more recent/current MG X-power models, Parradine, Qvale, Saleen, Stealth, Ultima and the Vauxhall Monaro – to name but a few!

I am coordinating the Bristol Owners' Club entry.

Ian;
The Lucas that they are referring to is the Lucas Oil Company, an American
firm with no tie to the infamous British auto electric supplier. I had the
same thought myself when I ran across their gear lube in an auto parts store
so I naturally asked someone.
With regard to your Bristol are you certain that the 318 is stock? I
always though that Bristol was using 383's by the mid 60's much like Jensen
or Facel Vega. Bristol's, much like letter series Chrysler 300s or
Imperials, always qualified as a Banker's Hot Rod to my way of thinking.

Then it is probably the only thing Lucas every made that actually
worked;-) At least their electrics are rubbish - they brought down the
whole British motor industry!

PS - As a Bristol owner (not an Imperial, sorry) I'm particularly
interested in the recent transmission posts - I wonder what vintage my
3-speed Torqflite is given that the car was made in 1967 but the engine
(a 318) was made in 1965? I'd dearly love to get an overdrive for it
to reduce engine revs above 70MPH from about 3000 to perhaps 2000...

I have used Trans X before, and it did reasonably well. However, it
did far
better in my leaky power steering system, especially when I started
using
cheap
motor oil instead of P/S fluid.

I have had better luck with brake fluid to slow down leaks. Its
cheaper
too.

Hi Everybody,
My '73 has develop a transmission leak. I had the fluid changed with
a
new
pan gasket. The leak is still there, and I'm wondering what the list
thinks
of "Trans X" to stop leaks. The mechanic I go to said the torqueflite
"727"
was a great transmission, and he has had good success with "Trans X."
Any
experience/comments would be appreciated.
