Brake shoes

I inspected my brake shoes today and found cracks in the lining. On the
rear shoes is this a problem? Should I change the shoes???

The shoe is the one that was not working until after I adjusted it. It has
almost 100% left. But I did find brake dust in the wheel this time, so it
is working. The other side is about 40% used?? I wondered if it was
working after I adjusted it that is why I pulled the wheel to check. I
don't remember seeing the cracks before.

This is something I would want to do before my trip.

Subject: Re: IML: IML-Slight Hiss

Brian,
Forgive me if this is too basic a solution... I may have misunderstood the
question.

In my '64 and a '65 that I've ridden in, the slight hiss when the car was in
gear was due to a vaccuum leak in the hose activating the automatic parking
(i.e., emergency) brake release. Sometimes the hose under the dash near the
transmission connection can work itself loose. It's worth taking a look
under the dash.
