'66 Coupe interior wood removal -- attack from the rear?

That better be one hell of a solvent if it goes through the metal and into
the wood. I don't want to separate the wood from its backing. I'm talking
about dissolving the glue that holds the metal plate to the dash. In
addition, if I can make large enough holes behind the plate then maybe I
can push it out rather than prying around the edges from the front.

Any solvent might soak past the glue into the wood and damage it. I'd try
heat before chemicals... Just my $0.02...
