I check the Imperial listing on E-bay everyday and have for almost two years now. The 2 '67s that came on yesterday both look real nice.
The cars that don't sell on E-bay seem to be those that either have a high reserve or a very high starting bid. Nice clean Imperials with lots of good pictures and information, bid up pretty high when people are able to start the bidding at a low level. That is because they think that they might get the car cheap. This is the HOOK that gets them interested.
After a while, others see that the car is going to cheap. They may not really even want it, but they will buy it if it sells for the cheap price. By that time, some of the people who began the bidding have already pictured themselves driving their Imperial down the road. They then become incensed that someone bid against them. Once that starts happening, bidder's fever takes over. Cars that sell this way nearly always go for as much or more than the owner had hoped for.
Placing a high reserve, or a high starting bids discourages the early bidders, and so nothing happens at all. Occasionally, a car with a high reserve will get a couple of lower bids in hopes that the reserve might be removed, but rarely does having a high reserve or a high starting bid result in a sale. I have seen the same cars listed over and over again. Once they have been listed a few times they seem to be even harder to sell.
