Multi-Elmac was a line of Amateur Radio gear in the years after WWII. I'm not finding references to the "TF" designation. But, they had a popular line of transmitters and receivers, the AF54 and PMR6. They had external power supplies and required 6V @ 6A or 12V @3A, AC for the filametns. I wonder if the device you're looking at is a vibrator unit for operation of one of these devices? Is there any evidence of antenna mounts on the car? Many Hams didn't spend a lot of time patching up holes after removing their radio gear (including me :-) ). You can read more about Multi-Elmac transmitters and receivers here: http://www.qsl.net/n9bor/Multi-Elmac.htm Be sure to check out some of the vintage ads of this gear. Boy, I can smell the soldering iron now!
