Pardon me for jumping in (ignorantly, as usual). My '64 Dart has ball &
trunion front u-joint as well. While I'm not suggesting you use an early
A-body unit, isn't there another donor car (say, an early 60's C-body) that
you could get a ball and trunion shaft from and have it adjusted to the
correct length? Aren't the output shaft flanges the same between the
forward look and early 60's cars, or are they different?

Yuck! That's expensive. There is a driveline shop close by that I will take
it to for an estimate. That 4 speed is sounding more and more inviting all
the time!
