Well, I can't speak for back then, but the new Sunbird & Cavalier convertibles are made the same way today in Lordstown, OH. I remember touring their plant some years agao and they pointed out that the cars slated for "convertibilizing" were sent out with no rear seat, upholstery, rear windows/windshield, headliner, and just an overspray of paint on their roofs. It may be an industry tradition. I would imagine that the frame strengthening would have been done at the factory though. -Dave
