Thanks to all of you who thus far have responded to my charger selection question. In summary of all the responses, sounds like I don't have to "go expensive" to get a decent, home-based/occasional-use charger. I like my local NAPA shop (even have daydreamed of owning my own store), but Wal-Mart has what I want for a more reasonable price. And in this small town, those are my main choices...no Sears or other major chain/franchise stores (except for Checker Auto Parts). I think NAPA offers great quality auto parts, especially for my old Plymouths, but in this case, my hat's off to Wal-Mart. As a final note, I find it interesting that there is a $30 difference between NAPA and Checker on what appears to be an identical 6V/12V multi-mode charger (6V @ 12A). The NAPA model/sku number is 85-7512, and the Checker/Exide model/sku is 7067512...note the last 4 digits are identical, and appearance differences are relegated to the face-sticker. Could it be that the NAPA unit has "guts" that are $30 more expensive than the Checker/Exide unit? Even though I won't be purchasing either charger, the "finding" is interesting. Jason Rogers.
