Re: [FWDLK] 59 Sport Fury 413?

Actually, the Sport Fury used the same automatic transmissions and button
layouts as the other models in the 1959 Plymouth line, right down to the
lowly Savoy.

The Torqueflite buttons, for 1959 only, were arranged D-N-R-2-1 from top to
bottom, while Powerflite had D-N-R-L. If the 1959 Plymouth had overdrive,
it was not available on any automatic. A Chrysler-built automatic with
overdrive would not appear until the fwd Ultradrive of the 1980's.

Special-Interest Autos did an article on the 1960 Valiant, and the author
related a story where the wife drove a 1959 Plymouth with Torqueflite while
the husband drove a 1960 Valiant with Torqueflite. One day the wife got
into the Valiant and hit the third button down on the transmission selector.
Instead of hitting "R" to back out, which was the third button down on her
1959, she hit "D" and lunged forward into the garage wall. Did a bit of
damage to both the garage and the car. not to mention flustering the driver.

As to a 1959 Sport Fury with a 413, I doubt it. In this instance,
especially, as there seems to be an awful lot of 'advertising' for an engine
in a car that was not offered to the public. The only proof, of course, is
acquiring the build sheet for that car.
