[FWDLK] Cross-border car transport

I can tell you we narrowly escaped a 72 hour US impound of a
car we sold and delivered to BC Canada a couple years ago.
Were helped by the Canadian customs people to get across
before the US agents arrived to seize the car.  On a rented
trailer, with limited time, this could have been a disaster.
Apparently the reasoning is that the US wants to avoid
stolen cars being taken across the border.  Yes, I owned the
car and had the title with me.  US customs didn't seem to
care about that, or so they told me on the return crossing.
They were mad the car got through.  There's no such law,
it's allegedly a "gentleman's agreement."

Another little tidbit of information--  Canada considers DWI
to be a crime.  If you've been convicted of DWI in the
states, Canada considers you an undesirable alien and will
promptly deport you at the border.  The only around this is
to file a petition with a Canadian embassy in the US, pay a
fee, and get a waiver of deportation.  [BTW it wasn't me!]
