when bidding on a CAR, EVEN when you are
UNDER the (hidden) Reserve, Ebay will apply ALL of your bid TOWARD the
Reserve, instead of allowing you to 'beat' the next-higher-bidder by
ONLY the "standard-minimum-higher-bid" amount (and 'hide' the remainder
of your max-
bid amount, until it may be "beaten", by another
bidder).
