Re: [FWDLK] Charging a battery

I just remembered an interesting point!

Question:  If you take a positive grounded car and connect the chassis (+12 Volts Direct Current, VDC)  to an earth ground (0 VDC) will current flow into the ground?

Answer:  No.  The current source is the battery which is insulated from earth ground by the tires.  If you measure the battery voltage across the battery, it will still read +12 VDC.  If you place the negative meter lead on the grounded chassis and read the "+" terminal, it will read 0 VDC.  If you read the  "-" terminal it will read -12 VDC.  The car does not care if the chassis is connected to earth ground or not.
