I can relate two stories on how
electrical ground faults can drive you to drink even if you do not currently
drink:
- 1990 Chevy
truck. Cranks and runs great. Hit something like a fan switch or
radio button, car acts as if any thing electrical on the vehicle disappered
for a second to the point where the dash board would do its power up light
test and the engine would restart because it was a manual going down the
road. The guy I sold the truck to gave up and the guy after him
figured it out. I should have figured it out as I had many times seen
the problem but did not understand what I was seeing. The ground cable
at the battery end has a smaller wire running off of on side going
?somewhere.? Turn out that is the ground for things other than the
starte, it was very intermittent and all of the problems went away once the
cable was replaced.

Yanmar tractor. Good charge
on battery. Go to start it and I would hear a pop and then it was if the
battery was not there. Removed cables from battery and cleaned
everything and reinstalled good and tight. Same results. Sent off
for starter switch. Same results. Finally noticed that the ground
and positive battery post connectors were the clamp on kind with bolts.
I removed the ground side and it was corroded and dull. Bought a new
cable end and problem went away. Have had this same problem on the
positive side if the cable were not tight as a lot of pressure is placed on
the connection when trying to crank the motor.
