I have looked through my collection of clippings (new model introductions, road tests, etc.) from 1957 to 1961 and all have the following - firewall - body colour innner fenders - body colour radiator crossmember - body colour There is a 1960 DeSoto "FireFlyt" on eBay - supposedly factory gold (a colour not offered in 1960) with a white roof. If you look closely at the engine compartment you can see the inner fenders are painted white and is a much older paint than the exterior gold (which is extremely shiny and clean in all door jambs, door edges, etc.) Although the seller is in Canada, the car is American. Virtually all the 'restored' cars, except those done by Richard Carpenter, have black for inner fenders and radiator crossmember. As for the DeSoto models, the 1957-59 Firesweep models were built at Hamtamck and came down the same line as the Dodges. The other 1959 models plus the 1960-61 DeSotos built at Jefferson Avenue came down the same line as the Chryslers. And DeSotos built at LosAngeles and Windsor came down the same line as the Plymouths, Dodges and Chryslers. The non-Firesweep 1957-58 models built in Detroit came off the Wyoming Avenue assembly line which built only DeSoto cars. Checked my 57, 58 and 59 Dodge Coronets and 60 Chrysler Windsor, All three Dodges had black inner fenders and radiator supports. Firewalls were primary body colors (white, white, and grey). The Chrysler had firewall, inner fenders and radiator support primary body color. Looks like from the responses, most Dodges, Desotos and Plymouths had the black inner fenders and radiator support, while Chryslers had the body colors. But............. Question: Do the Desotos which are built on the Dodge chassis (Firesweep) have the black inner fender/radiator supports like the Dodges and the larger wheelbase cars built on the Chrysler chassis body color, or are they all the same? Did all Desoto models come down the same assembly line (Firesweep, Firedome, Adventurer, etc)?
