Ray: rust is NOT fire: your example is an example the  fallacy of logic
known as  False Analogy.

Rust occurs as a destructive chemical process; fire is a destructive
chemical process; therefore  rust = fire .

Sorry,but the chemical processes of them are not identical, and their
operations are dissimilar.

Neil Vedder--and surfacre rust DOES create a physical barrier to
continued degradation.
