I think (...) that lubricating prevents them from getting stuck. And when they do get stuck while closing the lid, the tension will be higher when closed, causing the bars to loose (some of) their tension, depending on how long the deck will be closed. That suggestion, about lubing the "roller sleeve bar end" is not in the 57 FSM (probably because REPLACING the T/bars was not contemplated, during the 1957 MY. That said, I wonder about how/WHY the re- "lubing of the roller sleeve bar end is required". That area/piece may be the rotating cups, on the hinge-upright/supports. At any rate (TOO- much) lubrication is not a problem; my limp deck could use some MORE restriction/resistance; not less friction! Could you PM me, or the List, here, a page-view of that lube-job????
