Hey all I have been told by an old trans guy that my pushbutton had been tweeked by an old timer due to the way it hits second nice and sound not at all slushy like they were from the factory did. So when I grilled him for more info I got the blow off and told I wouldnt understand it anyway. The reason I am mentioning from an earlier chat Neil had mentioned something about the D-500 shift points being moved up. I think this is what hade been done with my 59 and it does shift good and solid.

Hey, John; no, no attack at all!
Scientific inquiry demands close vetting.
This is what Hot Rod (5/56;p. 26) has to say:
"The standard sybchromesh sideshift gearbox used on D500's is a heavy
duty unit with the following ratios: R: 3.2, L: 2.5, 2nd: 1.68,
High-Direct [presumably: 1.00]. These ratios have been used on all
Chrysler products for many years and one would think that for a gigh
performance car, more compatible intermediate ratios would be used; say
about a 2.3 Low and a 1.3 second But, alas, ! Such is not the case."
SO; You're RIGHT; I was looking at only part of the story; and those
numbers had merely jumped-out at me!
HERE WE GO: from earlier on Page 26 :
"The D-500 gear ratios, mechanical pushbutton layoiut and 'kickdown'
feature are identical with the Plymouth, except the maximum converter
ratio at stall speed, which for the D500, is 2.71 @ 1850rpm..
And:..." D500 Powerflite had shift points raised somewhat for better
performance. Full throttle shifts from Low to High in Drive were made
at about 70 mph, instead of about 55 mph for standard Dodges."
So, go plug THOSE numbers into your confusers!!!

hi neil..
out of curiosity... how was second/final gear in the powerflite not a
coupled 1:1? did you pick up on that? theres no secondary planetary set in
there to accomplish that, i dont think at least... the direct clutch couples the
input to output shaft, thus a "straight-thru" from converter to yoke....
not an attack!!!!
