I must be getting too old, I remember buying one of those factory change over kits,in 1972, from the local dealer for $57 plus tax.
I converted several points-type distributors, back in the day, with a new shaft/governor assembly from the dealer. It's not that easy to get that stuff any more since the dealer doesn't want fool around with "obsolete parts"

277 dollars? you could round up all the parts at a junkyard for 40 or 50 bucks.
