The three bottommost, of the five stud holes, on the flat-topped
late-60's shims,
will attach to our round-flanged axles' studs.
Those shims do their job just fine, especially when sandwiched between
'our' shims.
That's what what was done on my car, to 'set' the axle bearings, and a
slick digital
infrared/laser/whatever thermometer confirmed that the end results were not
causing or allowing any bearing overheating to occur.

How about using the adjustable bearing retainer from a later model
axle, is the bolt pattern the same?

Late model 'square-topped' axle shims can be used, on our

After buying a set of circular shims from "Big M" , on the FWDLK
website,
I discovered that I still needed some extra shims.
I found him on the 'Pay, but others have used his services, too :
"Doctordiff1"
Doctordiff's shims can be sandwiched in, as necessary, on our axles
and that's what my own shop did for my car.
