Dean, Automatic transmissions will tend to turn the drive shaft ,in neutral, it's the nature of their design. If you had your car up on a hoist with the engine running in neutral, it would tend to make the rear wheels turn. If the motor cranks with the selector in neutral, your push buttons are probably adjusted ok. Maybe I should have mentioned that we are starting the car from under the hood. The ignition switch is not working at this time, so wouldn't that bypass the saftey switch, or would it still interfer with the starting procedure? We are using a wire from the coil to the positive post of the battery, and arcing the two terminals on the solenoid to start her. Cranks right up, but still tries to turn the driveshaft. Wasn't doing that before I messed with the selector buttons. I was wondering if it would start in gear like that. Maybe you are right, it is just turning the driveshaft while in nuetral due to torque from the tranny. If hooked back up, the tranny probably wouldn't have enough torqe to make the shaft turn?? I will have to try cranking it with the other selectors pushed in to see if it will do it. Hello over there..... Here in Sweden, the cold weather, snow, darkness and depression is over us..... so what would be better than a good story to ligthing up the head with.... and I want YOU guys, to tell me the story of the seven cars. I remember a few years ago, on this mail-list, some of you guys talked about seven 300-G convertibles ordered on the same time from the same dealer, delivered on the same truck. I saw in the rooster that my car is manufactured in the middle of seven cars on row so it could be fun to hear the full story.... Best regards from your friend in Sweden..... Mr. Linder was a dealer who was told the "G" was end of the line, so he ordered a bunch. Kept one with a few miles on it until his death in late 70's. Interesting guy, I got pictures in '76. L. NOW the car will start with the key in the switch and the neutral button pushed. (At least until I broke the wires loose from the push button selector, they are only crimped to the metal casing that houses the starter button. Is it ok to sodder these wires in place instead of crimping them?) Remember, all I see is a bundle of wires hanging down as there is no dash in the car at the moment. The wires are still hooked up to their accesory pods. Also got headlights/tail lights working again. However, still starts and the driveshaft still turns. I am not good at this electrical stuff, worse part of the car to me!! Maybe it is just the torque from the engine making it turn, but it seems to want to turn pretty good. Also, two white wires came loose from a circular piece that is on the side of the selector housing. Seems that only one of the buttons works the bar that turns this item on and off, possible reverse. Are they the back up light wires? They were soddered on. Will resodder tomorrow. Just curious as to what they might be for. Shop manual is confusing to say the least with these wires and some of the colors.
