Rob Kern hands out a great deal of credit to others for getting his C from the condition in which he purchased it to its current glory. And its nice to see that.
The other side of the coin is the man himself: for taking a rather problematic C and with true vision and dedication upgrading any and every unsatisfactory aspect of the car until he was satisfied.
Great kudos to Rob.

I have received a number of inquiries on my comments regarding Microfiber
cloths, where to get them and how to judge quality.
Do a Google search on microfiber cloths and you will find all you ever
wanted to know on them.
This site is one of the first that came up.

Subject: 300C rear window stainless trim
Hi all
When comparing the lower window trim that fits around the rear pillar on my 300C project car, build date of 1st March, to that of my other 300C with a build date of 15th April. The early car has all clips to hold it in place around the pillar whilst the late car has a screw. The hole in the trim for the screw looks to be a factory punch job rather than a home handyman/cordless drill type job. So was this a factory or dealer mid-year upgrade? Or should I be looking for some replacement trim.....
Thanks for the help.

Definitely both types of trim ends were used in production on '57 hardtops, one clipped down fully and the other with a screw placed perhaps a couple inches back from the rain gutter in the short strips at the end of the lower horizontal surround. I have been unable to sort out whether this was a case of two suppliers (doubtful) or a running production change (more likely) however there does not seem to be a clear-cut distinction for a changeover VIN or date. I'm sure it happened at the factory, rather than being a dealership fix-it. Judges should accept either as far as I can tell.

Subject: 1957 inner fender color
The wheel/tire/suspension side of the front fenders of all '57 Chryslers built at the Jefferson Chrysler assy. plant in Detroit, were painted with the gray self-etching primer as all the sheet metal had been. Indeed, under the body color on the engine side of those inner fender wells is the same primer but as the car came down the assy. line, a UAW worker stood in the engine bay and sprayed across the already assembled-to-fenders inner wheel wells and cowl. That is why the inner fender to outer fender attaching bolts are ALSO body colored - they were painted with the front clip after they were installed.
Near the end of the assy. line, undercoat was applied in all the wheel wells except a few special order or "race" cars, so virtually the entire inner wheel well surface became black over the primer by the undercoat application.

Folks,
I concur with Wayne - I have also used the Leatherique product, which
actually consists of the animal oils squeezed from hides - doesn't get
better than that.
Also, glad it is still being made as I think they went through some
ownership
changes in the company at some point and when I contacted them in the in
1994 it wasn't clear they would continue to be a "going concern" .
Kudos to them for putting their history on their web site...explains a lot!

I'll throw another hat in the ring on the question of rejuvenating old
leather.
The product called "Rejuvenator Oil" from Leatherique
http://www.leatherique.com/ was used on my Gauguin '57 300C factory
original leather in 1987 just one time and not renewed until a few owners
later in about 2001. The leather was not only softened by the original
application but required no further maintenance for 14 years. And the
leather is still excellent now that a second application has been done.
Marv Raguse now owns the car.
I know Lexol is the popular hobby answer for leather, but Leatherique has
equally outstanding or superior products in my opinion.

Lexol was also mentioned in Wayne's missive. Some years back I purchased a
new Mercedes pearl black 560 SEC which had a wine colored interior.
I was at the Mercedes parts counter one day and while there picked up a
bottle of Lexol which they had on display for sale.
One Saturday AM I spent about an hour thoroughly going over only the
driver's seat with this product and was about to start on the passenger seat
when I noted that I was short on time and was due at the tennis courts for a
match.
I was wearing white shorts and shirt and when I arrived at the court my
partner for our doubles match asked me what had happened to my clothing. I
looked down and said nothing that I was aware of. She said look at the back
or your shorts which I did and found them to be completely stained this
awful burgundy color as was the back of my shirt.
Of course this was not good, so the next day I went to Mercedes and they as
they are always wont to do pleaded ignorance. I then called Lexol and
initially they did also and I insisted that I speak to someone in
engineering or product development.
I finally ended up speaking to this fellow who after some intense prodding
admitted that they had had similar reports in the past but that they were so
rare that they had done nothing to warn their customers and of course they
were sorry. I told him that there substance had also somewhat taken some
color out of the Mercedes seat which was probably obvious as it was on my
clothing.
Nevertheless I have never used their stuff again and when I do see it my
tongue kinda of curls up just as when I see some food substance that I may
have eaten that I did not find pleasant. I now place it somewhere between
Armor All and running out of fuel on the list of things that I attempt to
avoid in my life.
As for the Mercedes, the car is now 17 years old with 150,000 miles on it(my
wife will not give it up and I have bought her 2 new cars, which I am always
forced to drive -hee hee- and she still only drives this old SEC, in fact ev
en today it is my favorite driver too) and all I have used since then on the
interior(leather and vinyl--incidentally Lexol then was useless on vinyl,
don't know about it now) is 303 Protectant. The interior as well as the
exterior still look as fresh and new as a 17 year old car can look.
I too have heard good reports on Leatherique and Hyde Food. I have no
experience with either however.

I too remember trying to get more leatherique, a few years later -after
my first order, and found the company (Caulson -I think - not sure of
the spelling) closed think the owner/product developer passed away -
not sure) . I manage to trace down a family member of the company owner
who gave me a name/source of getting some more dye etc. if any was left
- as the company (I assume a small family operation) was no longer. I
was only able to get the oil as the dyes (cherry red for the sport 62)
Etc. were no longer being made.
I still have some of the oil and it is still in usable condition which
not the case for Lexol which I bought years later - it went bad
(curdled). As I told that Lexol has a high percentage of water and
some non organic stuff. I did find that the leather would not take a
dye/color finish well if it was treated with Lexol but had no problem
with stripping the leather paint off the leather (62 chrysler 300 red
leather), treating with the Leatherique oil (on hot weather days),
filling the cracks, and re-spraying the paint/dye (after the oils have
soaked into the leather and excess wiped off and allowed to set a few weeks
I'm happy to hear, through this lister service ) that someone has
rescued the the product line and has it back on the market!

To all the members that showed an interest in my magazine story. Well
I finally received a copy. The name is" Freedom" a magazine for
Chrysler and Jeep owners. It is a very classy magazine. It is on the
same caliber as our" Forward" magazine put out by the Walter P. Chrysler
Museum. Freedom is larger in overall dimensions. Their stories are
Jeep Trips in different parts of Europe, and Stories on new cars and
Vans. A few stories here in the states driving various new cars like
the Crossfire. My issue is #17 and is the Winter 2003. The stories
that my car is in is called" My First Chrysler." The cars included in
the article were 2002 PT Cruser-France, 1958 Dodge Custom Royal
2DHT-Canada, 1960 Dodge Polara 2 DHT- Canada, 2002 PT Cruiser- USA,
1929 Plymouth U series Roadster- Australia, 1956 Dodge Custom Royal
2DHT ( mine) USA, 1987 Chrysler New Yorker-Germany, 1961 Chrysler
300G- USA, 1975 Hillman Avenger 1300 Super - UK ( no picture) I guess
Chrysler bought them out), and a 1962 Chrysler 300H- USA. Actually you
would never know the Magazine was printed in England but for a few
changes in the names of car parts. My picture of me at age 17 sitting
on the Bonnet of my Dodge and one other where my mother became my Mum.
Other than that it is a great high quality magazine. I'm trying to get
