The wheel/tire/suspension side of the front fenders of all '57 Chryslers built at the Jefferson Chrysler assy. plant in Detroit, were painted with the gray self-etching primer as all the sheet metal had been. Indeed, under the body color on the engine side of those inner fender wells is the same primer but as the car came down the assy. line, a UAW worker stood in the engine bay and sprayed across the already assembled-to-fenders inner wheel wells and cowl. That is why the inner fender to outer fender attaching bolts are ALSO body colored - they were painted with the front clip after they were installed. Near the end of the assy. line, undercoat was applied in all the wheel wells except a few special order or "race" cars, so virtually the entire inner wheel well surface became black over the primer by the undercoat application. I would like to know the correct color for the tire side of the fender. Is it the color of the car or is it black? Thanks . Jay Robinson [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
