[Chrysler300] Stockton Wheels, Muscle cars, the meet (C3OO-L), Concours

Retransmit to server-have to retrain after every coffee break.

C-300'ly,
Rich

Hi, gang:

I've just returned from a great meet and an extended stay at Lake Tahoe,
including a rare heavy downpour while at Virginia City and Carson
City. My new $250 rotor got me down the hill nicely and the 15-year
old L78-15 Remingtons held up just fine in the heat, including a dado to
miss the village idiot coming at me half way over the double yellow
stripe on US50.

There has been so much correspondence on the Stockton wheel deal, I find
it hard to follow. I have a complete set of five 15"X5.5" C-300 wheels
and am only 30 miles from Stockton. If the issue of fitment and
compatibility of the Stockton Wheel special production runs is still
open, I'd be happy to take my C-300, the unmounted wheels and a C-300
hubcap to Stockton for a check to verify compatibility of the Stockton
wheel on the C-300 and 300-B (and the similar NY's, Windsors & Imps.).
Judges: I am keeping the stock wheels and wheel covers to gain quick
points in next concours. I would hope the concours rules might be
changed to not ding cars for having factory optional wheels (and other
factory options). Not grousing, just a suggestion.

Tony: Let me know if you think a run to Stockton would be of value.

Also, regarding the first muscle car--it would depend somewhat on when
the term was first invented, but I distinctly remember the public
reaction to the 1955 Chrysler C-300. 300 horsepower in a USA factory
stock car really caused a stir that was emphasized and underscored with
flying mile and NASCAR championships. I get a real kick out of car fans
of a certain age that start looking at my car and remembering it and
explaining it to a spouse, child or grandchild. It was and is a
watermark and icon. I can't recall any car since the C-300 that created
such a stir. Articles are still being written about it and Chrysler is
still using the iconic names of 300 and hemi to sell cars-50 years
later. When every manufacturer was creating muscle cars, the impact of
any one was diluted. Cars have been constantly improving (with a few
setbacks) for over 100 years and installing more power in lighter
chassis has long been a successful way to win races and sell cars. I
expect continued improvements in performance, safety, economy and
emission control.
