Hi Steve and All: First of all, thanks for the eyewitness accounting of the New Jersey Turnpike Trooper cars. I too have heard so many stories of Chrysler 300s being used, but NEVER could confirm it. Obviously that is because they didn't use them!!! After a while, I think those recollecting what they saw just assumed anything Chrysler and finned was a 300. Now---the 300E hood pad. There is NO doubt Chrysler intended the 300E to have a hood pad. Undercoating AND hood insulation pad are mentioned as standard equipment on the 300E in the sales brouchure and the Chrysler model specification sheets put out for sales people to deliniate differences the various model's optional and standard equipment. The NewYorker also had the undercoating and hood pad standard. Finally, I have a Chrysler photograph of Bob Rodger with the 300E engine compartment from 1958 which clearly shows a light colored hood insulation pad. That picture also appears on page 85 of Bob Ackerson's book. I have reviewed that code 611, and it appears to indicate domestic market for the car's destination. There would not be a "delete" for such a minor item as a hood pad, nor could I imagine why one would want to. Now, all this doesn't prove an occasional 300E got out without a pad. However, I think a more reasonable explanation might be the original fell off or disintegrated and and a caring owner cleaned up the remnants. You might want to ask Club member Robert Young about it, as he is a former owner. Hope this helps out a little. 300ly, Gil Cunningham Tally, Fl (kind of chilly here this am!) ON THE CODE SUMMARY THERE IS A CODE 611, TO WHICH GIL WROTE, DON'T HAVE CODE. COULD THIS BE HOOD PAD DELETE?
