To all, Here is my experience with the original style pushrods: My K had it's engine done by an outfit in Maryland (Quade's Racing Engines) and after 3000 miles or less, a pushrod "drilled" its way through the rocker arm. (Fortunately it was not a full throttle, but still sounded like the "hammers of hell" and I had images of a rod hitting the block). I have a parts 64 300 Silver Edition with a 383 and as I took parts from it, I realized that the pushrods were installed upside down. Upon inspection of the other rockers, more than half had visible cracks. I am sure the others that did not have visible cracks were indeed affected. This would be good question for a "300" trivia contest, if one has ever been held at a spring or fall meet. However, if you have installed a new cam and lifters, you should go with the more "modern" push rod design. This is so that the radius of the push rod will mate better, or more evenly with the larger radius of the new lifter. These "modern" push rods are standard push rods for a 440 engine. This is what I did with my G during rebuild. I removed the original push rods, they are round on one end and tappered on the other. problem is I cant remember which end is up or down. I have a set of new rods and they are identical to originals. Shop manual drawing seems to indicate the tappered end is the lifter end. Is this correct? Paul Martin Vancouver Bc __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam?
