I've never heard of or seen an autopilot on an F or G in the 30 years I've owned my G. I don't know where it would have been mounted, there's just no room. I agree with others that have said the pod was probably installed by a previous owner. The only pod on the right side of the steering column is to control floor air on AC cars, and it is under the ignition switch. Since my H doesn't have the rams, I never paid much attention to the space needed for the auto pilot unit. I'm sure somebody else can help out with this one. However, it has me wondering if Auto Pilot was even offered on the F or G? It doesn't seem like there would be enough room under the hood with the long rams AND the auto pilot unit. If it's under the volume knob, it could have been the cruise control knob. Or maybe someone just poked a hole and installed the manual choke. If you remove the bezel and find a nicely punched hole, it was probably put there by the factory, but if the hole looks like it was made with a drill or a hacksaw, it's probably home grown. Somewhere along the way this pod was converted from its original use to a manual choke. Can anyone tell me what the pod at this position was supposed to hold?
