Actually, 1961 was the first year for PCV valves in California. You will find coverage of it in the '61 Chrysler supplement, and it shows one installed on a ram inducted engine! I have converted my G to a PCV valve, I found an original, and you can still get them on eBay although the later ones work fine too. Over the years I've had some complaints about exhaust smell while idling stopped, so the PCV has eliminated the gasses from being expelled. Having said that, I don't think the downdraft tube is the issue with Keith's car. Close inspection of the entire exhaust system, with engine running, should reveal any small leaks. In addition, bad trunk seals or a hole someplace can definitely allow fumes to be pulled in. I had a similar problem last September, but traced it to a leaking muffler. Also, when new pipes or mufflers are fitted, make sure and use the exhaust system sealant sold at auto part stores. I did not use it at first, and upon inspection with the engine running on a lift, I found significant leakage at the pipe to muffler joints, then took it apart, applied the sealant, reassembled, and voila! No leaks. On a hot day with the windows open there can be a definite smell inside the car cabin dependent upon ambient conditions especially if there is a wind blowing or not and from what direction. Ask my wife with her unusually good sense of smell. She would tell you, she told me! > A PCV valve fixes that condition. Of course that would not be stock. The other option would be to replace the DDT with another oil breather cap. That caused a 300 Club member's engine to blow up on a newly rebuilt engine. > Tony Rinaldi > 300-F Conv't Weelllll, since callyfornia mandated PCV's sometime in the 50's one could install one and claim it was a California car originally :-) I do have a few pictures of a 57 392hemi with the PCV setup on it -- Paul Holmgren Mine: 2 57 300-C's in Indy Hers: 05 PT GT R/T HO Stage 1 Hoosier Corps L#6 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ To send a message to this group, send an email to: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or go to http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Chrysler300/join and select the "Leave Group" button For list server instructions, go to http://www.chrysler300club.com/yahoolist/inst.htm For archives go to http://www.forwardlook.net/300-archive/search.htm#querylangYahoo!
